The X in our DNA

The X in our DNA

The bicycle as we know it today has been around since 1817 and has become the main form of transportation for billions of people ever since. Two hundred years later, the bicycle market has exploded and bike sharing is more popular than ever. New smart-bikes, smart-locks and bike share operators are popping up like mushrooms. However, they tend to be in competition with one another instead of working together to find optimal solutions. We started X-bike to connect all of the variables and shake up the bike sharing system.

Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world.

- Grant Peterson

Bicycle designer, Grant Petersen, once said; ‘’Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world’’. X-Bike believes that cycling is the coolest and healthiest form of transportation around. With so many new and exciting cycling innovations being created every day Grant Petersen might just turn out to be right. Now that bicycles can be connected, cycling can directly contribute to or even lead the way in the smart-city revolution.

Why X

It doesn’t matter if you are undecided on how to use your bicycles or if you already have them set up and rolling around. If you want to make your fleet future-proof, X is the infinite variable and therefore represents your challenges and questions along the way.

How do we do it?

Despite the fact that every mobility problem is different, our approach is always the same. We figure out the problems you might face and then together with our partners we define your hardware and software, helping you to identify your geofence(s) and the corresponding triggers and rules that you will need to get moving in the best way possible.

Geofence

Geofence

/ˈdʒiːə(ʊ)fɛns/

Create a virtual geographic boundary around (an area) by means of GPS or RFID technology, enabling software to trigger a response when a mobile device enters or leaves the area.

In other words, geofencing is the concept of setting virtual areas and monitoring the entry and exit of smartphones or smart-locks in these areas. This eventually decides the possibilities of the system depending on the rules you as the operator, business or local government department have defined.

This method of using digital infrastructure removes the need for docking stations or other intrusive features to roll out your bike share program. You can easily create, erase or change the rules within your system without the need for physical intervention. For example, you could give specific employees access to an e-bike on weekdays while others might only have access during the weekends. Alternatively, you could geofence specific parts of the city to create unique shuttle routes.

The X-bike Platform

After selecting the optimal combination of bikes and smart-locks we add our modular software - the X-bike platform. Your users will be able to reserve, unlock and ride bikes using their smartphone and customisable X-Bike app as the key. You can also choose to integrate our software services into your own user-app and manage the whole fleet using our fleet management dashboard.

Our platform is modular so it can be upgraded or downsized in individual ways to fit your specific needs. You can find different applications brought to practice under projects. Let us know what your challenges are and we’ll be happy to give you a demonstration of a custom built solution.
